Comporta & Melides: good to know

Is it better to stay in Comporta, Carvalhal or Melides?

Choose Comporta or Carvalhal for a first visit, easier beach access and more restaurants; choose Melides for stronger design character, quiet and a more independent village feel. The driving time between the northern and southern ends makes one well-chosen base better than daily backtracking.

Can you visit Comporta without a car?

A transfer plus hotel shuttle can work for a short resort stay, but most hotels, beaches and restaurants are dispersed. A rental car gives substantially more freedom; reserve beach parking and dinner plans early in peak summer.

How many nights are enough?

Three nights gives two full days and works for a focused beach-and-hotel break. Four or five is better if you want both the Comporta/Carvalhal and Melides sides without turning every day into a drive.

When should you avoid peak season?

July and August bring the highest rates, traffic and restaurant pressure. Late May, June and September usually offer the best balance of warm weather, open seasonal venues and a calmer coast.
