Matarraña: good to know

Where is the Matarraña?

In the east of the province of Teruel, in Aragón, bordering Catalonia and the Valencian region. It is inland and hilly, well away from the motorways.

What is there to do in the Matarraña?

Walk between stone villages such as Valderrobres, Calaceite and Beceite, hike the Parrizal gorge, swim in river pools in summer and eat local olive oil and produce. It is a slow, outdoor destination rather than a sightseeing one.

Do you need a car in the Matarraña?

Yes. Villages are spread out, roads are winding and public transport is minimal. The hotels worth staying at are in the countryside.

Why does Torre del Marqués have three MICHELIN Keys?

The Keys reward the whole stay — setting, design, service and character. Torre del Marqués combines a restored stone estate, its own winery, a spa and a remote landscape, and it is one of only five hotels in Spain with the top distinction.

How many nights should you spend in the Matarraña?

Two or three. That gives time for a village or two, a walk in the Parrizal and at least one evening spent entirely at the hotel.
