The verdict
A stone tower house on a farm of vineyards and olive trees in the Matarraña, restored into 18 rooms and a villa and run as a winery as much as a hotel. It holds three MICHELIN Keys — one of only five hotels in Spain to do so — and belongs to Small Luxury Hotels of the World. It is the most remote of Spain's three-Key hotels, and the one that gives the most for the money.
Couples who want silence, a spa and the estate's own wine in a corner of Spain almost nobody has heard of.
You need a town or a beach within reach: the estate is deep in the countryside, and every outing means driving.
Ask for a room facing the valley — the windows are framed for it — and keep an evening for the estate's wines at dinner rather than a bottle from elsewhere.
The rooms
Eighteen rooms across four categories — Standard, Superior, Junior Suite and Family — plus a villa eight minutes from the main building. Stone walls, beams and wide windows onto the forest and the vines set the tone; the house was built with local hands and materials from the land around it.
The setting
The estate lies outside Monroyo, in the Matarraña, the corner of Teruel where Aragón meets Catalonia and the Valencian region. Its vineyards grow among olive groves in a landscape the hotel describes as barely altered over centuries, shared with wild boar, deer and foxes.
The food
Atalaya del Tastavins, the restaurant, mixes new ideas with respect for local tradition and cooks with produce from the surrounding land. The estate's own wines are poured alongside, and the winery is part of the stay rather than an excursion.
Getting there
The hotel stands on the road from Fuentespalda to Ràfales, near Monroyo. This is deep countryside: a car is essential, and the villages of the Matarraña — Valderrobres, Calaceite, Beceite — are all a drive away.
Good to know
The spa has a thermal water circuit, a sauna, a Turkish bath, treatment rooms and a heated outdoor pool. Families are catered for, with a family room category. The Keys are the Guide's 2026 selection; three is its highest distinction.
