MICHELIN Key hotels in Spain: every one we rate, by region
The 71 hotels in Spain with a MICHELIN Key that we rate, by region — from the Ritz in Madrid and three wine estates with three Keys to townhouses from €160 — and how to use the Key when choosing.

The MICHELIN Key is the MICHELIN Guide's award for hotels, from one to three Keys. Spain's 2026 selection holds 122 hotels; we rate 71 of them, grouped below by region. All five of Spain's three-Key hotels are on our list: three wine estates — Terra Dominicata in the Priorat, Abadía Retuerta on the Duero and Torre del Marqués in the Matarraña — the Mandarin Oriental Ritz in Madrid and Atrio in Cáceres. The thirteen two-Key hotels we rate are Akelarre in San Sebastián, Canfranc Estación in the Pyrenees, Cap Rocat, La Residencia, Can Cera and Can Ferrereta in Mallorca, Mas de Torrent on the Costa Brava, Marbella Club, Casa Beatnik in the Rías Baixas, the Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, Esperit Roca near Girona and, in Mallorca again, Cap Vermell and Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra. Mallorca alone has 23.
Since 2024 the MICHELIN Guide has done for hotels what its stars have long done for restaurants. A Key — one, two or three — marks a stay worth the trip, judged on five things: architecture and interior design, the quality and consistency of service, personality and character, value for money, and the hotel's contribution to its surroundings. It says nothing about the restaurant, and nothing about size or price.
The 2026 selection for Spain, published on 18 September 2026, has 122 hotels: five with three Keys, seventeen with two and one hundred with one — thirteen more than the year before. We rate 71 of them on the public Unlisted Index — the ones in the regions we cover — and list them all below. Six of our hotels moved with this selection — what changed, hotel by hotel: Esperit Roca and Cap Vermell went up to two Keys, Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra came straight in with two, and Mas d'en Bruno, Son Ermità and César won their first. The Principal Madrid lost the Key it held in 2025 and has come off this page.

Three and two Keys: the top of the list
Only five hotels in Spain hold three Keys, and all five are on this page: three wine estates, the Ritz in Madrid and Atrio in Cáceres. Seventeen hold two, thirteen of them ours, six of those in Mallorca.

The Keys we do not list
The other 51 include more city hotels in Madrid and Barcelona and houses in regions we have not reached yet, such as Asturias, Cantabria and Valencia. None of Spain's three-Key hotels is among them. A few are in regions we already cover, and may join this list once we have reviewed them.
Across the border: the Algarve
Portugal's 2026 selection holds 69 hotels with a Key: two with three, fourteen with two and fifty-three with one. Eleven are in the Algarve, whose eastern end is under two hours from Seville, and six of those are in our Algarve guide, from the three-Key Vila Vita Parc to Conversas de Alpendre near the Spanish border. The whole country, region by region, is in our MICHELIN Key guide to Portugal.
How to use the Key when choosing
Treat the Key as a filter, not a verdict. It tells you a hotel is exceptional of its kind; it does not tell you which kind you want. Can Mascort in Palafrugell is an official three-star with a Key and rooms from about €160; Son Bunyola, on the Tramuntana coast, starts at around €700 and holds the same single Key.
So start with the trip — city, coast or countryside; couples or family; car or no car — and use the Key to shortlist within it. Then compare scale, age policy and the compromises we list on every hotel page. The regional guides linked from each destination do exactly that.
How we built this list
The Keys are those of the MICHELIN Guide's 2026 selection for Spain, published on 18 September 2026 and checked hotel by hotel against the Guide's own listings on 22 September 2026; the four hotels added on 13 October 2026 were checked that day. Every hotel here is scored on the Unlisted Index; one, Anantara Villa Padierna, is kept as a practical alternative rather than a core pick. Inclusion is editorial and never paid. Availability links may be affiliate links, which can earn The Unlisted a commission without changing your price.
