The verdict
Two 16th-century manor houses joined among olive and citrus terraces above the artists' village of Deià, with sweeping Tramuntana-and-sea views, a serious art collection and a famously warm Belmond polish. The definitive Tramuntana stay.
Couples and art lovers who want mountain-and-sea romance with five-star service in Deià.
You want to step straight onto a beach — the coast is a short drive down.
Eat at the Michelin-starred El Olivo, and walk down to the Cala de Deià cove for a long seafood lunch.
The rooms
Around 70 individually styled rooms and suites across stone manor houses and garden buildings, dressed with antiques, four-posters and original Mallorcan art; many have terraces facing the mountains or the sea, and a handful of suites have private pools.
The setting
Set in olive and citrus terraces above Deià, the famous artists' and writers' village in the Serra de Tramuntana (a UNESCO World Heritage landscape), with two outdoor pools, a tennis court, a spa and big views to the sea. The Cala de Deià cove is a short walk or drive down.
The food
El Olivo, in a former olive mill, holds a Michelin star for refined Mediterranean cooking; Café Miró — named for the artist, whose works hang here — is the relaxed all-day option, with a strong wine and cocktail programme.
Getting there
About 35–40 minutes from Palma airport on the winding Tramuntana road; Sóller and Valldemossa are close. A car helps for exploring, and there's valet parking.
Good to know
A Belmond property — polished, romantic and expensive. The mountain road is scenic but twisty. Best in spring and autumn; Deià has a celebrated music and arts scene in summer.
