You are on a budget, or you want to be inside Santa Cruz rather than a few streets west of it.
Go up to the roof before dinner rather than at midday — the pool is small and the terrace is really an evening room, with the cathedral towers just over the tiles.

The setting
Calle Castelar, in El Arenal — the quarter between the river and the cathedral, historically the port district. It is two or three streets from the noise of Santa Cruz, which is the point: you walk everywhere, and you sleep.
The food
Breakfast under the dome is the set piece. The María Luisa restaurant and two bars handle the rest, and the roof serves through the evening. It is a small operation, so book dinner with the room in spring.
Getting there
Fifteen minutes by taxi from Santa Justa station, twenty-five from the airport. The old centre is largely pedestrianised and there is no hotel car park, so confirm parking arrangements if you drive.
Good to know
Five stars gran lujo and a MICHELIN Key in a house with eleven keys means the ratio of staff to guest is unusual, and so is the rate. The rooftop pool is a plunge pool, not a swimming pool, and April — Semana Santa and Feria — is a different city and a different price.
