Spain in November: where to go, and what it is really like
November is the month Spain splits in two. One half keeps a sea you can swim in; the other trades the beach for cities you can finally walk. Four kinds of November trip, eight hotels, and an honest account of what closes.

For sun and a swimmable sea, only the Canaries deliver in November — César Lanzarote or Palacio Ico. For cities on foot at last, Andalusia: Mercer Sevilla, Seda Club or Balcón de Córdoba. For wine country after the harvest, Mas d'en Bruno in the Priorat. For an island with the crowds gone, Son Brull in Mallorca, or Cap Rocat in the first half of the month, before it closes for the winter. In 2026, Monday 2 November is a holiday in nine regions, among them Andalusia, Madrid and the Canaries, so book that weekend early.
November is the most misread month in Spain. The country does not cool down evenly: it separates into places that keep the sea warm enough to swim and places that give up the beach and become walkable instead. Choosing badly means a cold sea and a shut terrace; choosing well means an empty Alhambra and a hotel at half of its August rate.
The dividing line is the water. In the Canaries the sea sits at around 22°C through November, which is genuinely swimmable. Everywhere else on the Spanish coast it averages nearer 18°C — fine for a fast dip, not for an afternoon. Once you accept that, the decision gets easy.

The four kinds of November trip in Spain
Work down this table before you look at a single hotel. Almost every disappointing November trip is a trip that picked the wrong row.
| If you want | Go to | November reality | Start with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sun and a sea you can swim in | The Canaries | 20–25°C by day, around 16°C at night, sea about 22°C | César Lanzarote, Palacio Ico |
| Cities you can finally walk | Seville, Granada, Córdoba | Seville falls from about 23°C to 18°C across the month; Granada runs 5–15°C | Mercer Sevilla, Seda Club, Balcón de Córdoba |
| Wine country after the harvest | The Priorat | Vines turning, cellars quiet again, cold nights | Mas d'en Bruno |
| An island without the crowd | Mallorca | Walking weather in the Tramuntana; the sea is for looking at | Son Brull; Cap Rocat until mid-November |
For sun and a swimmable sea: the Canaries
This is the only honest answer to "where in Europe can I still swim in November". The Canaries hold 20–25°C by day, drop to about 16°C at night and keep the sea near 22°C — warmer than the Mediterranean manages in June.
César Lanzarote has 20 adults-only rooms on land that belonged to César Manrique's family, high on the slope at La Asomada with the volcanoes behind and the sea below, plus an infinity pool and a sunset bar. Nothing is walkable and the wind on this side is real, so ask for a sheltered terrace and take a car.
Palacio Ico is the opposite trip: a 1690 house in Teguise, the old capital, restored to nine rooms around a cactus courtyard, with a kitchen the Michelin Guide has listed since 2023. No pool, no beach, no view — but you can walk out of the door, which on Lanzarote is rare.

For cities you can finally walk: Andalusia
The Andalusian cities are unbearable in August and close to perfect in November. Seville falls from about 23°C at the start of the month to 18°C at the end; Granada runs colder, roughly 5–15°C, with the Sierra Nevada already white behind the Alhambra. The queues thin out and the patios stop being an endurance test.
Mercer Sevilla keeps eleven rooms and suites in the Casa Palacio Castelar, an 1880 mansion in El Arenal restored by Cruz y Ortiz, with its central patio under a glass dome and a pool on the roof. Seda Club is twenty-one rooms four minutes' walk from Granada's cathedral, with a planted roof terrace and a small spa below — useful when the evenings turn cold. Balcón de Córdoba is ten rooms in a 17th-century convent house twenty metres from the Mezquita, with Roman and Hispano-Muslim carved pieces on its walls; there is no pool, spa or restaurant, and in November you will not miss them.
If this is your November, our guide to Seville, Córdoba and Granada in autumn sequences the three cities properly.

For wine country after the harvest: the Priorat
The vendimia is over by November, which is exactly the point. The cellars are quiet, the vines turn, and the steep-slope terraces of the DOQ look better in low autumn light than under an August sun. Nights are properly cold inland, so this is a fireplace-and-long-dinner trip rather than a pool one.
Mas d'en Bruno is a centuries-old estate at Torroja del Priorat turned into the region's first true luxury hotel — 24 suites with terraces above the vines, an infinity pool aimed at the Montsant range, a serious spa and a Relais & Châteaux kitchen. It is gloriously isolated, so plan on driving and on eating in.
For the harvest itself, and for the same trip in the Douro and Montalcino, see where to stay for the grape harvest. Our Priorat guide compares six hotels in the region.

For an island without the crowd: Mallorca
Mallorca in November is not a beach island, and pretending otherwise is how people ruin the trip. What it becomes instead is a walking island: the Serra de Tramuntana is at its best between October and April, when the heat is gone and the light is long and low.
Cap Rocat is a 19th-century coastal fortress on the edge of the Bay of Palma, with ramparts, a sea-water pool carved into the rock and suites hidden behind stone walls — drama that does not depend on sunbathing, and Palma twenty minutes away. It holds two MICHELIN Keys, but it is a seasonal hotel and closes from mid-November to mid-March, so it only works for the first half of the month. Son Brull, with one Key, is a former 18th-century monastery outside Pollença with a spa, a serious kitchen and the northern Tramuntana behind it, which makes it the better base if you actually intend to walk, and it stays open through November.
Check opening dates before you book anything on the island: a number of Mallorcan hotels close between November and February, and some that stay open run a reduced restaurant and spa.

The eight hotels in November
Opening was checked on 5 October 2026 against each hotel's availability for mid and late November. Prices are indicative starting rates for a double and fall below summer levels at most of them. Six of the eight hold a MICHELIN Key; every hotel in Spain with a Key that we rate is in our MICHELIN Key guide.
| Hotel | Where | Open in November | MICHELIN | From, per night |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| César Lanzarote | La Asomada, Lanzarote | All month | 1 Key | about €320 |
| Palacio Ico | Teguise, Lanzarote | All month | Restaurant in the Guide | about €195 |
| Mercer Sevilla | Seville | All month | 1 Key | about €450 |
| Seda Club | Granada | All month | 1 Key | about €330 |
| Balcón de Córdoba | Córdoba | All month | — | about €165 |
| Mas d'en Bruno | Torroja del Priorat | All month | 1 Key | about €500 |
| Son Brull | Pollença, Mallorca | All month | 1 Key | about €350 |
| Cap Rocat | Bay of Palma, Mallorca | Until mid-November | 2 Keys | about €690 |
What November is not good for
A guide that only sells the month is not much use. Four honest warnings.
- The mainland sea. At around 18°C the Mediterranean and the Atlantic coasts are swimmable for a few minutes and no longer. If swimming matters, it is the Canaries or nothing.
- Daylight. Sunset comes in the late afternoon, which shortens a driving day considerably — an important detail for the Priorat and for the Tramuntana, where the roads are slow and worth seeing.
- Closures. November is when seasonal hotels, beach restaurants and some island boat services shut. Confirm directly with the hotel rather than assuming.
- Rain. November is one of the wetter months in the north and on the Atlantic coasts. Andalusia and the Canaries are the drier bets.
Planning a November trip in Spain
Two long weekends move prices and crowds, and in 2026 both depend on where you live. All Saints' Day, 1 November, falls on a Sunday, so nine regions move the holiday to Monday 2 November: Andalusia, Aragón, Asturias, the Canaries, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Madrid and Navarre. That makes 31 October to 2 November a three-day weekend for half of Spain, including the people most likely to fill Seville, Granada and the Canaries; Catalonia, the Balearics and Valencia work that Monday. The second is the puente de diciembre: Constitution Day, 6 December, also falls on a Sunday, and ten regions move it to Monday 7 December, among them Andalusia and Madrid. With the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday 8, the first weekend of December runs from Saturday 5 to Tuesday 8 there. Book Andalusia well ahead for both; for the month itself, see Spain in December.
Outside those two windows, November is the cheapest good month of the Spanish year. Rates at hotels that hold their summer standard drop sharply, and the same room can cost a fraction of its August price.
If you are travelling in the first half of the autumn rather than the second, Spain in October sets out how that month splits in two at the clock change, and where it is still summer in October covers the coasts that keep their warmth a few weeks longer.
How we selected these hotels
Every hotel here is one we rate on the public Unlisted Index, and each one was chosen because it works in November specifically — an indoor life, a spa, a fireplace or a sea that is still warm — not because it is good in July. The climate figures were checked on 16 September 2026 and are averages: any single November can run warmer or wetter. Opening dates and the 2026 holidays were checked on 5 October 2026, against each hotel's availability and the official calendar published in Spain's Boletín Oficial del Estado.

Frequently asked questions
Is November a good time to visit Spain?
It is, if you pick the right part. For cities it is one of the best months of the year: Seville, Granada and Córdoba are walkable at last, the queues are short and prices fall. For beaches it is over on the mainland, where the sea averages about 18°C. Only the Canaries stay properly warm.
Where in Spain can you still swim in the sea in November?
The Canary Islands, where the sea holds around 22°C through November and daytime air is 20–25°C. On the Spanish mainland and the Balearics the sea averages nearer 18°C, which is swimmable for a few minutes rather than an afternoon.
What is the weather like in Andalusia in November?
Mild and much drier than the north. Seville falls from about 23°C at the start of the month to 18°C by the end. Granada is colder, roughly 5–15°C, with snow already on the Sierra Nevada. Evenings need a coat everywhere.
Do hotels close in Spain in November?
Some do, mainly seasonal hotels on the islands and the coasts, and some that stay open reduce restaurant and spa hours. In this guide, Cap Rocat in Mallorca closes from mid-November to mid-March; the other seven hotels had rooms on sale for late November 2026 when we checked on 5 October. Confirm restaurant days directly with the hotel.
When should you avoid travelling in Spain in November?
Two weekends fill up in 2026. Monday 2 November is a holiday in nine regions, including Andalusia, Madrid and the Canaries, so 31 October to 2 November is busy in Seville, Granada and the Canaries. And Monday 7 December is a holiday in ten regions, including Andalusia and Madrid, which with the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday 8 makes a four-day weekend from 5 to 8 December.
