The verdict

Twenty-one rooms four minutes' walk from the cathedral, and the most confidently designed hotel in Granada — deep blues and rust, an arched bar, a planted roof terrace, a small spa below. It holds a MICHELIN Key and a Small Luxury Hotels membership, and unlike almost everything else in the city it is not trading on the Alhambra.

Best for

Design-led city stays where you want to walk everywhere and come back to a roof terrace.

Skip if

You want an Alhambra view from the room, or a garden — this is a townhouse in the centre.

Insider tip

The rooftop is the hotel's real living room and it is small; go up before dinner rather than at the end of the evening, when it fills.

The rooms

Twenty-one rooms and suites, several with a balcony or terrace, in a palette of deep blue, rust and pale plaster that is a long way from the wrought-iron-and-tile Granada default. Some categories are compact — this is a centre-of-town building — so the terrace ones are worth the step up.

The setting

A few streets from the cathedral, between Gran Vía de Colón and Plaza Nueva, which puts the Albaicín, the Realejo and the Alhambra approach all within a walk. Central also means audible on a Friday; ask for a room off the street.

The food

A restaurant and bar built around the arched, book-lined room on the ground floor, working Granada produce, plus service on the roof through the warm months. Breakfast is à la carte rather than a buffet.

Getting there

Ten minutes by taxi from the train station and about forty-five from Granada airport; Málaga is an hour and a half by road. The centre is pedestrianised in parts, so confirm access and parking when you book.

Good to know

Five stars, a MICHELIN Key and a Small Luxury Hotels membership in a twenty-one-room building — the scale is the point. Alhambra tickets sell out weeks ahead and no hotel can conjure them; book those before you book the room.
