The verdict
A restored Andalusian farmstead among olive groves twenty kilometres north of Granada, with fifteen rooms spread across the old house, the granary and the stables, a family chapel from 1878, a pool and views to the snow of the Sierra Nevada. It holds a MICHELIN Key and admits guests from 12, which keeps it quiet.
Couples who want an Andalusian country house with a real kitchen, and Granada and the Alhambra half an hour away.
You want the city on foot or a design hotel: this is a rustic cortijo, and you will drive into Granada.
Ask for El Mirador or one of the suites in the old granary and dovecote, and stay in for dinner at least one night.
The rooms
Fifteen rooms, each different: four suites (El Silo, El Granero, El Palomar and La Iglesia), eight doubles and three family rooms, with beams, tiled or wooden floors and rustic furniture.
The setting
In Albolote, between the Sierra del Pozuelo and the Sierra Arana, among wheat fields, sunflowers and olive groves, with the Sierra Nevada on the horizon. The chapel, consecrated in 1878, has been restored.
The food
The restaurant serves regional cooking with a menu that changes daily, for lunch and dinner; breakfast is a buffet.
Getting there
About 25 minutes by car from Granada and 20 from its airport, just off the A-44. A car is needed.
Good to know
Children are admitted from 12 and groups are limited to eight, to keep the house calm. Some rooms accept pets for a fee. The pool is seasonal.
