The verdict
A small eco-boutique hotel on the slopes of the Monachil valley, at the gateway to the Sierra Nevada natural park and fifteen minutes from the centre of Granada, with contemporary rooms (two of them cube-shaped), terraces facing the mountains, a pool filled with Sierra Nevada water and dinner under the trees. It holds a MICHELIN Key and is the best country base for the Alhambra.
Couples who want the Alhambra by day and silence, stars and mountain air by night, without giving up a good dinner.
You want to walk into Granada for tapas: you will drive or take a taxi every evening you go out.
Book a room with a terrace, and check the breakfast time before you book your Alhambra slot — an early entry and a slow breakfast rarely fit together.
The rooms
Contemporary double rooms in four categories, some with a balcony or a private terrace facing the valley and the mountains; two are cube-shaped rooms set into the hillside.
The setting
Above the village of Monachil, about eight kilometres from the centre of Granada, where the Sierra Nevada natural park begins, among terraced gardens and olive trees. The Los Cahorros gorge walk starts nearby.
The food
Dinner, built on market produce from the province, is served in a skylit dining room or, in the warm months, on a terrace under the trees.
Getting there
About 15 minutes by car from the centre of Granada and 25 from the airport. A car is useful.
Good to know
Pets are accepted on request. The hotel describes itself as sustainable and is certified by Ecobnb.
