The verdict

A 19th-century palace listed as Bien de Interés Cultural, with a second, deliberately modern building behind it and an Arab-style garden of fountains between the two. Forty-two rooms, a spa dug in under the garden, and the quiet a walled garden buys you six hundred metres from the cathedral.

Best for

Travellers who want a garden and a spa without leaving the centre of Granada.

Skip if

You prefer a small house — this is a full hotel with two buildings, events and a busy breakfast room.

Insider tip

Rooms in the old palace and rooms in the new building are genuinely different experiences: the palace has the mouldings and the painted ceilings, the annex has the light and the space.

The rooms

Forty-two rooms and suites between 35 and 70 m², split between the listed palace and a contemporary building behind it. The restoration kept the plasterwork and painted ceilings in the old wing; the new wing is pale, quiet and considerably more spacious. Choose the wing before the category.

The setting

Calle Solarillo de Gracia, about 650 metres from the cathedral, on the flat part of the city rather than up in the Albaicín. The Arab-style garden with its fountains is the centrepiece, and the reason the hotel feels removed from a street that is not.

The food

Los Patos serves Granada produce beside the garden, and breakfast there is the best hour of the day in summer. The Bodyna spa sits underneath the garden — sauna, hammam and a thermal pool in filtered light.

Getting there

Ten minutes from the train station, forty-five from the airport, and a genuinely walkable position for the cathedral, the Realejo and the Alhambra approach. There is hotel parking, which in central Granada matters.

Good to know

A five-star Design Hotels member that also hosts events, which the garden feels on a Saturday. Granada is a walking city on hills and this hotel is on the flat — a real advantage over sleeping in the Albaicín.
