Granada: good to know
Where should you stay in Granada?
The flat centre, between the cathedral and the Realejo. The Albaicín has the Alhambra views but is steep, hard to reach by car and a climb at the end of every evening; the Alhambra hill itself is beautiful and completely cut off from the city. Central means you walk to dinner.
Do you need to book Alhambra tickets in advance?
Yes, and well in advance — they routinely sell out weeks ahead, and the Nasrid Palaces carry a timed entry you cannot change. Book the ticket before the hotel, not after; no hotel can produce one at short notice.
How many nights are enough in Granada?
Two, if one of them is built around a morning at the Alhambra. Three lets you add the Albaicín, the Cartuja and an afternoon doing nothing, which in a city this walkable is time well spent.
When is the best time to visit Granada?
March to May and September to November. Granada sits at 700 metres with the Sierra Nevada behind it, so it is colder in winter and hotter in summer than the coast — July and August regularly pass 35 °C, and January nights drop close to freezing.
