The verdict
Fifteen suites on a 30-hectare headland above Cala Llucalari, on Menorca's south coast, each with its own saltwater pool and garden. A former military and private site restored over more than a decade, it joined Relais & Châteaux and received a MICHELIN Key in 2025. With room for about thirty guests, it is the most private stay on the island.
Couples who want a pool of their own, the sea in view and a hotel that never feels full.
You want a sandy beach, a town on foot or a family trip: it is a clifftop for two, and the island is a drive away.
Ask for a Historic Suite, built into the old vaulted structures, and take the path down to Cala Llucalari early, before the day-trippers from Son Bou.
The rooms
Fifteen suites in three categories — Mediterranean, Historic and Exclusive Historic — from about 30 to 60 m², each with a saltwater pool of up to nine metres and private outdoor space of up to 300 m². Interiors are pale and handmade, with carved wood headboards and blue shutters.
The setting
On a private headland on the Llucalari road near Son Bou, in the south of the Alaior municipality, surrounded by pine woods and gardens of native plants. The sea is below the terraces; Son Bou, the island's longest beach, is a few minutes away by car.
The food
Casa del Mar, the restaurant, cooks Mediterranean food with seasonal Menorcan produce, on a terrace that looks out to sea. For dinner out, Alaior and the south-coast villages are a short drive.
Getting there
About 20 minutes by car from Menorca airport and 25 from Maó. A car is useful; parking is free.
Good to know
Designed for couples: there are no cots or extra beds. Capacity is limited to around thirty guests, so book well ahead for summer, and confirm the season's opening dates.
