The verdict
A palace with roots in the 12th century, around two stone courtyards in Palma's old town, restored by the Stockholm group Nobis with the architects Wingårdhs into thirty-seven rooms, each a different shape. A carved Arabic ceiling survives in the reception. It holds a MICHELIN Key and is the most design-led of the old-town palaces.
Design lovers who want history in the walls and a clean, contemporary room, with a buzzing restaurant and bar downstairs.
You want a pool for the afternoon: the outdoor spaces here are the courtyards and the roof terrace.
Have a drink in the courtyard at dusk, and ask for one of the larger suites if you are staying more than two nights.
The rooms
Thirty-seven rooms and suites, no two alike in shape or size, in stone, wood and linen with Scandinavian restraint. Some bathrooms are compact, as the old walls dictate.
The setting
In the old town among Palma's Gothic churches and squares, in a palace organised around two original inner courtyards, with a rooftop terrace above the city.
The food
NOI serves sharing plates from European kitchens made with local produce, and the bar is one of the old town's liveliest. Palma's restaurants are all within walking distance.
Getting there
About 15–20 minutes by taxi from Palma airport. No car needed.
Good to know
Children are welcome. There is a small spa with a sauna and a gym. Nobis also runs a second, separate hotel in Palma, Concepció by Nobis.
