The verdict
Twenty-two suites and twenty chalets of black-painted wood on the Renon plateau at 1,200 m, above Bolzano, opened in 2019 by the Sanoner family, hoteliers since 1810. Every unit has its own sauna, the chalets a fireplace too, some of them around a small natural lake; the 23 m saltwater pool runs from indoors to out, towards the Dolomites, and every meal and drink is included. One MICHELIN Key.
Couples who want a chalet, a sauna and a fire of their own, and nothing to sign for at dinner.
You like to eat out: rates are all-inclusive and the lodge is where you dine. Children are welcome from eight.
Come up on the Renon cable car from Bolzano, twelve minutes from near the main station, and leave the car behind; ask for a chalet by the lake.
The rooms
Twenty junior suites of 45 m² and two panorama suites of 140 m² in two side buildings, and twenty chalets of 55 or 90 m² with a fireplace; every unit has its own bio-sauna.
The setting
At 1,200 m in Soprabolzano (Oberbozen), on the Renon plateau above Bolzano, looking towards the Dolomites. The buildings are clad in black-painted wood so that they almost disappear into the forest.
The food
A panoramic restaurant with an open kitchen, a 4,000 m² kitchen garden and the lodge's own honey. All meals, wines and cocktails are included.
Getting there
By the Renon cable car from Bolzano, 12 minutes, from a station 500 m from the main station, then the hotel shuttle; or by car to the hotel's free garage. Bolzano airport is 25 km away, Innsbruck and Verona about two hours.
Good to know
The Forest Spa among the trees has a Finnish sauna, a bio-sauna, a yoga pavilion and an ice-cold lake bath. The lodge keeps alpacas.
