The verdict
A palace of 1913 on the hillside above the lake, turned into sixty junior suites and suites that all look the same way: across Lake St. Moritz to the Engadin peaks. Da Vittorio St. Moritz, run by the Cerea brothers, holds two MICHELIN stars; the hotel holds three Keys. It is the quieter of St. Moritz's three three-Key hotels, and the one where every guest gets the view.
A suite with the lake in the window, and one of the best Italian tables in the Alps downstairs.
You want to be in the thick of the village: it is a short walk up the hill, which is the point.
Book Da Vittorio for the first night, not the last — and ask for a corner suite on a high floor.
The rooms
Sixty junior suites and suites, every one facing the lake, from the corner junior suites to the penthouse under the roof.
The setting
On the Via Johannes Badrutt, on the slope above Lake St. Moritz, a short walk from the village and the Chantarella funicular.
The food
Da Vittorio St. Moritz, from the Cerea family of Brusaporto, holds two MICHELIN stars; the Grand Restaurant serves half board in a panelled room; the Bel Etage is the lounge.
Getting there
About three and a half hours from Zurich by train, via Chur. The hotel collects guests from St. Moritz station.
Good to know
Part of the Tschuggen Collection. It opens for the winter season: check the dates before booking. The spa has an indoor pool facing the mountains.
