The verdict
A grand hotel on its own plateau, the Chasellas, ten minutes out of St. Moritz, with forest behind it and the whole of the Upper Engadin in front. It keeps the old rhythms — half board, a children's club, a staff of about 330 in winter — and its own lift onto the Corviglia slopes. Two MICHELIN Keys, and the hotel for skiers who would rather not be seen.
Families and skiers who want a grand hotel with the slopes, not the village, at the door.
You want to walk to the shops: St. Moritz is a shuttle away.
Take the south-facing junior suites for the balcony, and lunch at the hotel's own mountain restaurants on the Corviglia side.
The rooms
About 180 rooms and suites, from single rooms to ten suites of 100–130 m² with south-facing balconies or terraces. The junior suites face south over the valley.
The setting
On the Chasellas plateau in the Suvretta area, about ten minutes from St. Moritz station, with a lift from the hotel into the Corviglia ski area and cross-country trails on the doorstep.
The food
The Grand Restaurant for half board, the Suvretta Stube, and the hotel's two mountain restaurants, Chasellas and Trutz, on the slopes above.
Getting there
About three and a half hours from Zurich by train via Chur, then the hotel's transfer from St. Moritz station. Samedan airport is fifteen minutes away.
Good to know
Open from early December to early April and from late June to early September. Half board is the house style: dinner in the Grand Restaurant is part of the stay.
