The verdict
Seven rooms in a beautifully restored stone masia in the hamlet of Casavells, each themed on a figure from Empordà history — original beams, fireplaces and big windows onto the fields. Adults-only, with a garden, library and a pool framed by countryside; pure, romantic Empordà calm a few minutes from La Bisbal.
Couples after a quiet, characterful historic farmhouse in the heart of the Baix Empordà.
You need a large hotel, spa facilities or to walk to the sea.
With only seven rooms it sells out — book well ahead, and ask for a room with a fireplace.
The rooms
Seven individually designed rooms, each named for and inspired by a character from Empordà's history and culture. Stone walls, original wooden beams and fireplaces give every room a warm, year-round feel, while large windows pull in the light and frame the surrounding fields. Adults-only throughout.
The setting
A restored historic farmhouse in the quiet hamlet of Casavells, part of Corçà, in the flat farmland of the Baix Empordà. The grounds include a garden, a terrace, a library and an outdoor pool that looks straight out over the countryside; the ceramics town of La Bisbal d'Empordà is about five minutes away.
The food
A generous breakfast buffet sets up the day, and the library and garden are made for slow afternoons; in-house massages can be arranged. For dinner you're superbly placed for the restaurants of Peratallada, La Bisbal and the surrounding villages, all a short drive away.
Getting there
About 30 minutes from Girona–Costa Brava airport and roughly 1h45 from Barcelona. La Bisbal d'Empordà is 5 minutes and the nearest coves around 20–25 minutes. A car is recommended; there's parking on site.
Good to know
Adults-only with just seven rooms, so it books out in season — reserve early. The pool is a summer pleasure; the fireplaces make it work in the cooler months too. Romantic and tranquil rather than a full-service resort.
