The verdict
Richard Branson's kasbah stands above the Berber village of Asni in the High Atlas, about an hour from Marrakech, with 37 rooms, riads, tents and suites among terraced gardens. The infinity pool faces the mountains. It holds three MICHELIN Keys, the Guide's highest distinction — the Atlas stay against which the others are measured.
Mountains, clean air and walking, with a house that feels personal rather than corporate.
You want the souks and restaurants of the city on the doorstep.
Walk up through the valley to a Berber village with a guide from the house, and be back for sunset by the pool.
The rooms
Thirty-seven rooms, riads, suites and Berber-style tents, many with balconies over the valley.
The setting
Above Asni, in the foothills of the High Atlas, in terraced gardens with the mountains all round.
The food
Two restaurants, including Asayss, with terraces over the valley.
Getting there
About an hour by car from Marrakech-Menara airport, on the road towards Imlil and Toubkal.
Good to know
There is a spa, a tennis court and the pool. Nights in the mountains are cool, even in spring.
