The verdict
The grande dame of Marrakech, open since 1923 inside the ramparts of the medina, with eight hectares of gardens where some olive trees are centuries old. Sanjit Manku and Patrick Jouin reworked it in 2020 and 2023 without losing its mix of Moroccan craft and Art Deco. It holds three MICHELIN Keys, the Guide's highest distinction, and it is still the address against which every other hotel in the city is measured.
A first trip to Marrakech with the medina on foot and a garden to come back to in the heat of the day.
You want intimacy: with more than two hundred rooms, suites and riads, this is a grand hotel, not a hideaway.
Walk the gardens early, before breakfast, when the olive and orange groves are empty — and keep a late evening for a drink at Le Churchill.
The rooms
One hundred and thirty-five rooms, 71 suites and three riads with their own gardens. Rooms mix zellige, carved cedar and Art Deco lines, and the better ones have balconies over the gardens.
The setting
On Avenue Bab Jdid, inside the city walls, a short walk from the Koutoubia and Jemaa el-Fna. The gardens are the heart of the hotel: eight hectares of olive, orange and palm trees, rose beds and long alleys.
The food
Four restaurants: L'Asiatique par Jean-Georges, L'Italien par Simone Zanoni, Le Marocain and the poolside Pavillon de la Piscine. Among the bars, Le Churchill is named for the hotel's most famous regular.
Getting there
About 15 minutes by car from Marrakech-Menara airport. The medina's souks start a few minutes' walk from the gate.
Good to know
It is not bookable on Booking.com; reservations go through the hotel's own site. The spa has a large indoor pool and traditional hammams.
