The verdict
An early 20th-century townhouse in Amoreiras, a residential quarter above the old town, opened in 2022 as a hotel of fifteen rooms by the group behind Sublime Comporta. The designer Rita Andringa filled the period rooms with strong colour, patterned textiles and contemporary art, and on the ground floor Davvero cooks regional Italian food. It is small, warm and away from the crowds, and it holds one MICHELIN Key.
A quiet, personal base for a return visit, when the famous neighbourhoods are a taxi ride away rather than under the window.
You want to walk out into the old town: Amoreiras is residential, and Chiado is about twenty minutes on foot.
Walk to the Mãe d'Água reservoir, at the end of the Águas Livres aqueduct a few streets away, and pair a stay here with a few nights at Sublime Comporta.
The rooms
Fifteen rooms and suites in four categories. Some of the smaller rooms are tight, as the historic floor plan demands, while the suites reach 56 square metres; all mix period mouldings with bold colour and pieces by Portuguese makers.
The setting
On Rua Marquês de Subserra in Amoreiras, near the Jardim das Amoreiras and the aqueduct, a short taxi ride from Príncipe Real and the Avenida da Liberdade.
The food
Davvero, on the ground floor, is an Italian restaurant that travels through Italy's regions, with a bar for cocktails; it also serves the hotel's breakfast.
Getting there
About 20 minutes by taxi from Lisbon airport. Rato metro station is a ten-minute walk.
Good to know
This is a house, not a resort: the facilities are the restaurant, the bar and a few treatments. Sublime Comporta, the group's estate on the coast, is about an hour and a quarter away by car.
