The verdict
A 1930s guest house in Harads whose owners asked Swedish architecture studios to build rooms in the trees around it: a mirrored cube, a UFO, a bird's nest, a red cabin, a dark tower lit up under the aurora. It is exactly what the name promises, with a restaurant, a sauna and a hot tub by the river and very little else. Selected by the MICHELIN Guide, without a Key.
Architecture lovers, and a night in a room you will remember.
You want a spa or room service: services are deliberately minimal.
Choose the room for its view rather than its shape — the 7th Room looks over the forest and the northern sky — and eat at the old guest house.
The rooms
Treerooms designed by different Swedish architecture firms, each raised among the pines, plus rooms in the original guest house.
The setting
In the forest above the Lule River at Harads, just south of the Arctic Circle, a few minutes from Arctic Bath.
The food
A restaurant in the old guest house with local, seasonal cooking.
Getting there
About an hour by car from Luleå airport; transfers can be arranged.
Good to know
The treerooms are reached by walkways and stairs; bring warm clothes for the walk to breakfast in January.
