The verdict

Airelles' first hotel outside France opened on Giudecca in 2026 and came straight into the Guide with three MICHELIN Keys and its Opening of the Year award. A 16th-century property in gardens across the water from St Mark's, part of it designed by Andrea Palladio, holds 17 rooms, 28 suites and a three-bedroom villa, dressed in Rubelli and Fortuny fabrics, hand-painted frescoes and antiques. The Guerlain spa covers 1,700 m² over three floors, the largest in Venice, and the kitchens belong to Norbert Niederkofler, Nobu Matsuhisa and Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

Best for

A new grand hotel in Venice with a spa, two pools and several restaurants, a boat ride from the crowds.

Skip if

You want old patina rather than a new hotel in old buildings, or to travel between January and mid-March, when it closes.

Insider tip

Use the hotel's private boats to St Mark's, and keep one dinner for Villa Frollo, where Norbert Niederkofler cooks with the producers of the lagoon.

The rooms

Forty-five rooms and suites shared between the Palladio and Villa Frollo, plus Villa Mason, a private house with three bedrooms and a pool. Fabrics are by Rubelli and Fortuny, the frescoes hand-painted and the furniture antique.

The setting

On the Fondamenta delle Zitelle on Giudecca, facing St Mark's Square three minutes away by boat, in a 16th-century property surrounded by gardens with an outdoor pool.

The food

Villa Frollo is Norbert Niederkofler's restaurant, cooking from the lagoon and local producers; abc kitchens is Jean-Georges Vongerichten's, Matsuhisa brings Nobu's Japanese-Peruvian cooking, and Cédric Grolet does the pastry.

Getting there

By water taxi from Marco Polo airport or Santa Lucia station. The hotel runs private boats to St Mark's.

Good to know

Closed for its seasonal break from 10 January to 11 March 2027. The Guerlain spa has an indoor pool. We could not find it on Booking.com, so the link goes to the hotel's own site.
