Casa La Siesta

Vejer de la Frontera, Spain

Verified by our editors · June 2026

The verdict

A tiny, much-loved rural retreat in the countryside outside Vejer de la Frontera, built brick by brick by its owners. Around eight rooms of shabby-chic calm around a pool and gardens, deep in the Cádiz hinterland on the Costa de la Luz — adults-leaning, deeply personal and made for switching off. Charm and soul over facilities.

Best for

Couples and friends who want an intimate, characterful country hideaway near the wild Costa de la Luz beaches.

Skip if

You need a big hotel, a beachfront location or lots of facilities — this is small, rural and gloriously low-key.

Insider tip

Book the casita with its own plunge pool, and drive out to the empty beaches around Zahara and Bolonia.

The rooms

Just a handful of rooms and suites — around eight keys, including a two-bedroom casita with a private pool — decorated in a relaxed, shabby-chic style with antiques, natural light and understated luxury. Adults-leaning for most of the year, with set family weeks in the school holidays.

The setting

In open countryside a ten-minute drive from the hilltop white town of Vejer de la Frontera, deep in the Cádiz hinterland of the Costa de la Luz, with gardens, a saltwater pool and big Atlantic-light skies. The wild beaches of Zahara de los Atunes, Bolonia and El Palmar are a short drive.

The food

A small, generous kitchen does honest home-cooked breakfasts and convivial set dinners on request, eaten communally or in the garden; Vejer itself has a surprisingly good restaurant scene a few minutes away.

Getting there

About 45 minutes from Jerez airport and an hour from Gibraltar; roughly 1h15 from Seville. A car is essential out here — there's parking on site — and it's the natural base for the Costa de la Luz beaches and the white towns.

Good to know

Tiny, personal and adults-leaning — it books out well ahead, so reserve early. Come for the calm, the owners' care and the empty Atlantic beaches rather than hotel-style facilities; the Costa de la Luz is breezier and wilder than the Mediterranean coast.
