The rooms
29 comfortable, classically kept rooms — some with balconies over the streets of Falset — refreshed over the years without losing the house's old-hotel character. Suites add space for not much money; doubles start around €99.
The setting
On the main street of Falset, the Priorat's capital town — cafés, cooperative cellars and the wine fair (early May) at the door, with the DOQ villages fanning out within twenty minutes' drive. The liveliest, most practical base in the region.
The food
The restaurant is a local institution: Priorat cooking done properly — market produce, slow dishes, and a cellar and wine bar that showcase the county's bottles at kind prices. Half-board here is money well spent.
Getting there
Thirty minutes from Reus airport, under two hours from Barcelona, and Falset has the region's rare train station (the R15 line from Barcelona via Marçà-Falset). Still, a car makes the villages and cellars easy.
