The verdict
OKU's relaxed, design-led beach-luxe formula — first proven in Ibiza — brought to the southern tip of Spain near Sotogrande. A big, low-slung resort of terraced infinity pools, swim-up suites and a buzzy beach club, with views across to Gibraltar and the African coast. Cool and contemporary rather than classic; built for sun, pool days and a social scene.
Design-minded travellers who want a stylish, social beach-and-pool resort with a boho-luxe mood.
You want intimate, quiet or heritage character — this is a large, contemporary resort built around the scene.
Book a swim-up suite, and time sunset at the beach club looking towards Gibraltar.
The rooms
Around 250 rooms and suites in OKU's signature beachside-bohemian style — natural materials, soft neutral tones, generous terraces; the swim-up suites with direct pool access and the penthouses with big terraces are the ones to book, plus a private four-bedroom villa with its own infinity pool.
The setting
On a quiet stretch of coast near Sotogrande and La Alcaidesa at Spain's southern tip, where the Andalusian hills meet the sea, with views across to Gibraltar and North Africa. Three terraced infinity pools step down the hillside towards a beach club; the mood is relaxed, social and design-led.
The food
Four venues — the flagship OKU Restaurant (inventive Japanese, Asian and South American), the Mediterranean-with-an-Asian-twist To Kima, an all-day terrace, and an adults-only beach club — with a strong bar and DJ programme.
Getting there
About 20 minutes from Gibraltar airport and roughly 1h10 from Málaga airport; Sotogrande and its marina are close. A car is useful; parking on site.
Good to know
A large, recently opened resort (part of OKU Hotels) rather than a boutique — the draw is the pools, the beach club and the design. Liveliest in high summer; parts of the resort are adults-only while it welcomes families overall.
