Parador de Aiguablava
Begur, Spain

The verdict
A state-run parador on the cliffs above the Aiguablava and Fornells coves, with big balconies, a sea-facing pool and unbeatable value for the position. The architecture is dated 1960s-modern and rooms are simple, but few hotels on the coast match the views for the price.
Families and value-minded travellers who want the clifftop sea view without the luxury price.
You want boutique design or contemporary interiors — this is comfortable and functional.
Pay up for a sea-view room with a balcony; the pool terrace at sunset is the set-piece.
The rooms
Around 78 simple, comfortable rooms, most with a balcony — and the sea-view balconies, looking out over the Aiguablava cove, are the ones to pay up for. Interiors are functional and a touch dated rather than designed; you're buying the position and the view, not the décor.
The setting
Perched on the cliffs above the Aiguablava and Fornells coves near Begur, with a sea-facing pool terrace and direct access to the Camí de Ronda coastal path. The turquoise water below is among the best on the coast, and the clifftop setting is the whole reason to stay.
The food
A straightforward restaurant in the Paradores tradition — Empordà and Catalan dishes, local fish and rice — with sea views from the dining room and terrace. Reliable rather than gastronomic; the setting does the heavy lifting.
Getting there
About 45 minutes from Girona–Costa Brava airport and 10 minutes from Begur village. A car is recommended for the coves and villages; free parking on site. Barcelona is roughly 1h45.
Good to know
Part of Spain's state-run Paradores chain, so expect dependable comfort over luxury — and outstanding value for the location. Family-friendly, with the pool and beach access; book a sea-view balcony room well ahead in summer.
