Girona & around: good to know
Should you stay in Girona itself or outside the city?
Stay in the old town for a short city break without a car. Stay outside it for a pool, space and a view: Esperit Roca is ten minutes north of Girona and Camiral about twenty minutes south, and both need a car or taxis to reach the city.
How far is Girona from the Costa Brava beaches?
About 30 minutes by car to Sant Feliu de Guíxols and S'Agaró, and 40 to 50 minutes to the coves of Begur, Calella de Palafrugell and Tamariu. Girona works as a base for day trips, not for a beach holiday.
Is Camiral worth it if you do not play golf?
Only if the spa, the pools and the short hop from Girona airport matter more to you than the sea. The course is the reason for the resort; non-golfers who want the coast are better served by a hotel in the Baix Empordà.
Can you eat at Esperit Roca without staying at the hotel?
Yes. Both restaurants in the castle take outside guests, which is why tables go before rooms: book dinner as soon as your dates are fixed.
