The best golf hotels in Spain: 7 resorts worth the trip
The short answer

For the best course in the north, stay at Hotel Camiral, the 2031 Ryder Cup venue, six kilometres from Girona airport. On the Costa del Sol, Finca Cortesín is the most complete all-rounder; Fairmont La Hacienda adds two courses above the sea near Sotogrande; La Zambra puts two Robert Trent Jones courses half an hour from Málaga; and Anantara Villa Padierna sits among three. For golf with a city, Castillo Hotel Son Vida is ten minutes above Palma; for golf with wine, Peralada in the Alt Empordà.

Spain has more golf resorts than any traveller needs and far fewer golf hotels worth the trip. The difference is the hotel. A good course attached to a tired four-star is a golf holiday; a good course attached to a hotel you would book anyway is a better one, and it is the only kind we list.

The rule for this guide was simple. The course had to be on the estate or at the gate, not a transfer away, and the hotel had to meet the bar of the whole catalogue on its own: a MICHELIN Key, five stars, or something genuinely singular. Six of the seven hold a Key; the seventh, Camiral, is a five-star and the venue of the 2031 Ryder Cup. Most are large resorts rather than boutique hotels, so we also judged how each works for the partner who does not play.

The seven golf hotels at a glance

Scale changes the stay more than the scorecard does. Finca Cortesín has 67 suites on 215 hectares; La Zambra has 196 rooms around its pools. Decide first whether you want one great course or several within reach, and whether the trip also needs a beach or a city.

The north's headline course: Camiral, near Girona

Hotel Camiral is the reason to plan a golf trip to Catalonia rather than the south. The resort, known until recently as PGA Catalunya, has two courses in pine and cork-oak woods at Caldes de Malavella: the Stadium, regularly ranked among the best in Spain and chosen for the 2031 Ryder Cup, and the gentler Tour. The hotel is a five-star member of The Leading Hotels of the World, with some 140 rooms dressed by Lázaro Rosa-Violán, a spa and six places to eat.

The location is the other argument. Girona–Costa Brava airport is six kilometres away, Girona's old town about 20 minutes and the coast at S'Agaró about 30, so a long weekend can mix two rounds with a day in the city and a lunch by the sea. Book the Stadium tee time with the room; it is the round everyone comes for. Non-golfers who want the beach every day are better placed in the Baix Empordà.

Costa del Sol: one great course, or three at the door

Finca Cortesín is the benchmark. Its 67 suites sit on an estate above Casares with a championship course that hosted the 2023 Solheim Cup, a 2,200 m² spa and a beach club on the sea a few minutes away. It is the choice when one excellent course, big rooms and privacy matter more than variety, and it is priced accordingly.

La Zambra, in Mijas, is the old Byblos reborn as a white Andalusian village with a MICHELIN Key. The Los Olivos and Los Lagos courses, both by Robert Trent Jones, are next door and a dozen more lie within fifteen minutes; Málaga airport is half an hour away. Anantara Villa Padierna, in the hills of Benahavís, wraps three courses, a thermal spa and more than 1,200 works of art around a palatial hotel. Both are large, both are good for families, and neither is a boutique.

The western end: Fairmont La Hacienda and the Sotogrande courses

Fairmont La Hacienda is the newest hotel in this guide and the one with the view: a five-star on the hills above La Alcaidesa, looking over its own Links and Heathland courses to Gibraltar and, on clear days, Africa. It holds a MICHELIN Key, and Dalmar, the main restaurant, is led by Benito Gómez of two-starred Bardal in Ronda.

The western end of the coast is also where the famous names are. Valderrama, host of the 1997 Ryder Cup, the San Roque Club and the Sotogrande courses are a short drive away, which makes this the best base for a week of different rounds. The trade is distance: Málaga airport is about an hour and a quarter away, so fly into Gibraltar when you can.

Golf with a city or a vineyard: Son Vida and Peralada

Castillo Hotel Son Vida is Mallorca's original luxury hotel, a hilltop castle ten minutes above Palma with the Son Vida courses at the gate and one of the best views of the bay. It is adults only, holds a MICHELIN Key and suits a golf break with dinners in Palma rather than a beach holiday.

Hotel Peralada Wine Spa & Golf plays the same role in the Alt Empordà: an 18-hole course beside the castle, the winery and a wine spa, with Figueres and the Dalí museum fifteen minutes away and Cadaqués forty. The rooms are comfortable rather than memorable; the course, the wine and the summer music festival are the reasons to go.

Beyond Spain: Tuscany and Puglia

Two estates in Italy belong in the same conversation. Castiglion del Bosco, a Rosewood hotel near Montalcino, has a private golf club among the Brunello vineyards of the Val d'Orcia, alongside a MICHELIN-starred restaurant and its own winery. Borgo Egnazia, in Puglia, sits beside San Domenico Golf on the Adriatic, with the service and facilities of a full resort. See every golf stay we rate in the golf collection.

Which one for non-golfers, families and couples

A golf trip usually includes someone who is not there for the golf. Match the hotel to that person too:

When to play

Spring and autumn are the seasons across Spain: March to June and September to November give the best balance of temperature, light and course condition, and they are also when tee times go first. The Costa del Sol is the winter option, with mild days from December to February, although mornings can be cool and some hotel facilities run shorter hours.

July and August are hot everywhere south of the Pyrenees; play at dawn and keep the afternoons for the pool. In the north, Camiral and Peralada are at their best from April to June and in September and October.

Booking checklist for a golf stay

Hotel rates and golf rates are rarely the same thing. Before paying, confirm:

  • Whether green fees, a buggy and practice balls are included, and on which course.
  • How far ahead hotel guests can book tee times, and whether they get priority.
  • Handicap rules: many championship courses ask for a valid certificate and set a maximum.
  • Club hire or storage, and transfers if the course is not on the estate.
  • Cancellation terms for the tee time as well as the room.

How we selected these hotels

Every hotel is scored on the public Unlisted Index: singularity, design, setting, service and soul, for the whole stay and not just the golf. Courses, room counts and distances were checked against official hotel and resort information on 12 September 2026; the MICHELIN Keys are those of the 2025 Spain selection.

Availability buttons may use affiliate links and can earn The Unlisted a commission without changing your price. Commercial links do not decide inclusion. Tee-time rules and green fees change often; verify them with the course before you travel.
