Spain honeymoon: where to go, how long and where to stay
Choose a Spain honeymoon by the days you want to repeat: island variety, slow Menorca, wine and coast, or an Andalusian city-and-resort route.

For a first Spain honeymoon, choose Mallorca for seven nights if you want the widest mix of sea, villages and hotel time; Menorca for a slower six-night island; Priorat and Empordà for wine, food and coast; or Seville, Córdoba and the Costa del Sol for city energy followed by a resort. Start with the pace, then limit the trip to one or two bases.
Spain is excellent for a honeymoon when it is treated as a sequence of good days rather than a country to tick off. The useful choice is not north versus south, or beach versus city. It is whether you want the hotel to carry the trip, whether you want to drive, and whether evenings should happen on foot or inside the property.
This is a decision guide, not a ranking of romantic places. The four routes below have different weather windows, transfer patterns and room priorities. Pick one and give it enough nights; adding a third base usually takes more from a honeymoon than it adds.
Choose the shape of the trip first
Choose Mallorca for range: a city, mountain villages, coves and more than one convincing hotel base. Choose Menorca when quiet roads, a country estate and unhurried dinners matter more than covering ground. Choose Priorat and Empordà when a winery appointment, a long lunch and a coastal swim are the point. Choose Andalusia and the Costa del Sol when you want a real city before a few days in a full-service resort.
| If you want… | Choose | Useful length | The compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| The broadest first trip | Mallorca | 7 nights | Two bases and a car make sense |
| An island that slows down | Menorca | 6–7 nights | Country hotels need planned transport |
| Wine, food and a coast | Priorat + Empordà | 6–8 nights | Driving is part of the trip |
| City life then a resort | Andalusia + Costa del Sol | 7–9 nights | Heat decides the season |
Mallorca: the strongest all-round first honeymoon
Mallorca works when one person wants a hotel-led stay and the other wants towns, food and a change of scenery. Keep the island to two bases at most. A southern or south-east stay gives you coves and Palma access; the Serra de Tramuntana changes the mood completely with villages, roads and mountain hotels.
For a short, private opening, Cap Rocat is the hotel-first choice. Can Ferrereta makes more sense when Santanyí evenings and south-east coves matter. Add Finca Ratxó only if you genuinely want mountain quiet and spa time; it is not a convenient beach base. Use the Mallorca area guide before choosing rooms.

Menorca: for a slower island honeymoon
Menorca is the better answer if the honeymoon needs fewer decisions each day. A western estate gives access towards Ciutadella and its evenings; a central or eastern finca makes the hotel, pool and slower drives part of the rhythm. Do not choose it for a dense itinerary of a new beach and restaurant every day.
Son Vell is the rounded country-estate choice near the west. Menorca Experimental suits a more social design-led finca. Both reward a week that leaves room for a hotel day, and neither should be sold as a beach resort. The Menorca hotel guide makes the town-versus-country and car decision explicit.

Priorat and Empordà: for wine, food and a coast
This is the most grounded Spain honeymoon: two or three nights in Priorat, then four or five near the Empordà coast or countryside. It is best for couples who enjoy drives, long meals and one carefully booked winery rather than a packed tasting schedule. Keep alcohol and driving separate; book winery visits before you arrive.
Gran Hotel Mas d'en Bruno gives Priorat a complete hotel day with spa and pool. On the coast, Hotel Aiguablava is for sea-led mornings; Mas de Torrent shifts the mood to gardens and villages. Read the Priorat guide and the Baix Empordà guide before fixing the split.

Andalusia and the Costa del Sol: city first, resort second
For couples who need life outside the hotel, begin with Seville or add a night in Córdoba, then finish on the Costa del Sol. It is a useful contrast: walkable evenings and historic rooms first; pool, spa and less decision-making afterwards. A car is unnecessary for the city pair and useful once you leave it.
Marbella Club fits couples who want beach, gardens and a livelier social setting. Finca Cortesín suits a more self-contained, private resort stay. Avoid building this route around July or August unless heat is part of the reason for going; spring and early autumn make the city portion far more enjoyable. The Seville guide and Costa del Sol guide handle the local hotel decision.
How to divide six to ten nights
With six nights, choose one destination and one hotel base, or Mallorca with only two. With seven or eight, a 3/4 or 4/4 split is usually enough. With nine or ten, add a city to an island or coast — not another island. The test is simple: if a transfer costs a morning, it must buy you a genuinely different kind of day.
For every route, reserve the exact room before comparing the hotel name. Private outdoor space, a sea-facing terrace, pool access, minimum-age policy, cancellation terms and dinner availability can change the value of the stay more than another point on an editorial score.
Before you reserve
Use this checklist for a honeymoon or any high-value non-refundable booking:
- Choose no more than two bases for a week.
- Check the exact room's privacy, outdoor space and view rather than the hero photograph.
- Confirm airport or station transfers before booking a remote finca.
- Reserve the one dinner, spa treatment or winery appointment that matters most before flights.
- Read the final Booking rate for cancellation, breakfast, taxes and any minimum-stay rule.
How we made this selection
These routes use hotels already assessed against the public Unlisted Index and destination guidance already published on this site. A vetted assessment is editorial research, not a claim that an editor stayed anonymously at every property. We describe trade-offs because a honeymoon hotel can be beautiful and still be wrong for the daily rhythm you want.
Availability links may earn The Unlisted a commission without changing the traveller's price. That relationship does not determine inclusion. Hotel policies, transport and seasonal opening patterns can change, so confirm the final details on the booking page before paying.
Frequently asked questions
Is Spain good for a honeymoon?
Yes, especially when you choose one clear route rather than trying to cover the country. Spain can combine a city, wine country, coast or island with strong hotels and relatively short internal transfers.
How many nights do you need for a Spain honeymoon?
Seven nights is a useful minimum for one island or two nearby bases. Nine or ten nights can add a city to a coast or island without making the trip a chain of transfers.
Which Spanish island is best for a honeymoon?
Mallorca is the most versatile first choice; Menorca is better for a quieter country-estate rhythm. Choose Mallorca for range and Menorca for fewer decisions.
When is the best time for a honeymoon in Spain?
May, June, September and early October give the best broad balance. Exact conditions differ by route: islands and coasts are most comfortable around the warmer edges of summer, while Andalusian cities are easier outside the hottest months.
Should we rent a car?
Usually for Mallorca beyond Palma, Menorca country stays, Priorat and Empordà. Do not rent one for a Seville and Córdoba city stay; add it only when leaving for the coast or countryside.
